Chattel houses are another of Barbados' historical attributes. Originally designed to be the plantation workers' homes, the houses were constructed to be transportable in the event of disputes. The name chattel referred to the fact that they were movable property. Today, the beautifully coloured houses adorn the landscape island-wide.
